Noah Cyrus, the 17-year old sister of Miley Cyrus, released a new single with troubled Floridian rapper XXXTENTACION to promote her upcoming album, NC-17. XXXTENTACION, battling legal trouble, recently released his similarly-titled debut studio album, 17.
It is worth nothing that I have not been impressed with XXXTENTACION’s output thus far. He is praised by the mainstream hip-hop media for addressing issues such as suicidal ideations and depression, something which has already been covered by hip-hop artists such as Geto Boys (“My Mind Playing Tricks on Me”), Kanye West (“Coldest Winter”), The Notorious B.I.G. (“Ready to Die”), Danny Brown (“XXX”), Death Grips (“On GP”), OutKast (“Da Art of Storytellin’ (Part 1)”), Chance the Rapper (“Paranoia”), and many more.
XXXTENTACION joins a long list of trap rappers who have recently adopted autotuned singing. “Again” finds Cyrus and XXXTENTACION singing about wanting someone to love them again. The lyrics are simple as they both sing over a trap-pop instrumental that would not be out of place on a post-Trilogy Weeknd album. The chorus is catchy enough but is repeated one too many times for a song that barely surpasses the three-minute mark.
